What is Granular glaze?
Bulbous or irregular granular is the best high-quality goods in granular glazes. This type of granular glaze can be used not only with glass-like frits. This glaze can also be used with a variety of frits that produce special reactions and ceramic artistic effects. This kind of glaze can also be used together with the glaze composed of raw materials of various components. For mixtures consisting of various frits and raw materials, it is even possible to combine them into a firm, dense, even granular shape. The process of making granular glazes is as follows: Starting with a complex glaze formula, each raw material is finely ground (wet or dry) to achieve perfect uniformity and fineness.
The ingredients are then mixed and the powder is granulated to form hard particles or spherules (wetting agents and binders).
Granulation can be accomplished by several types of granulator, which can produce 0.5~10mm pellet.Other systems are also available. For example, use powder dry pressing or extrusion in molded form.
To obtain spherulite compactness, chemical additives and further drying can be used to sintering at 600-800℃.If the particle size is too large, the crusher can be used for crushing, and then screening.
This granular glaze may be tinted in its formulation or coated with a colourant.Granular glaze in ceramic decoration can form a more single frit glaze, which make more attractive results. It does not appear unmelted and refractory particles as fritted glazes do.It forms a soft, smooth glaze. Pigments and glazes diffuse into the surrounding material. The glaze particles applied repeatedly to form a vein structure due to the various layers and different melting degree of the particles. Thus it can enhance or reduce the effect of color.Granular glazes can produce effects such as rainbow glazes, crystalline glazes, matt glazes and rustic glazes.
In addition, the glass layer formed after melting and firing has a good density when the grainy glaze is properly formulated.
